The Fagan Home
256 South Holliday Street
The house was likely built by James Sonner, noted Strasburg master craftsman and builder, in 1877 for Asberry Redfern.
The home was later owned by James Sonner's son Max and his family. Max was also a carpenter, with a workshop in
his back yard that now serves as a storage building for current owners, Rita and Keith Fagan.
Rita describes the structural renovation in 2008 by local Woodstock contractor Freddie Neal. The Fagans began this renovation due to foundation concerns with sloping of the floor and ceiling of half of the kitchen and the upstairs sleeping porch. Bathrooms were remodeled at the same time and a laundry room installed.
The new kitchen was designed and built by Fry's Custom Cabinets in Strasburg with custom cabinets in green and gold. Central heat and air were added during the renovation and some of the original radiators were kept as an extra source of heat. The kitchen now exits onto a new back deck and brick patio and walk that were installed in 2010. Renovation was complete with new flooring for the front porch.
Rita found a Victorian mantle for the "piano room" on the first floor which was probably originally used as a dining room. Her passion for unique and eclectic pieces adds to the originality of light fixtures, ceramics, art and other decorative additions. The Fagans enjoyed sharing their home with visitors.
